When Jimmy Carter declared a national crisis due to fuel shortages, we thought this country would finally decide to stop depending on foreign oil. Crude oil has turned into gold for the oil producing countries where we don’t have a lot of friends. During the Carter era the Shah of Iran, who had been a U.S. puppet, forgot who put him there and turned his back to us. When his people revolted he could not find many friends and the Ayatollahs began their reign of terror. Oil has made them immensely rich and enabled them to export their violent view of the world.

These days we still have Iran as an enemy, but a former ally, Venezuela, is now in the greedy, grubby hands of a dictator who pretends to be the heir to Simon Bolivar. The Liberator would despise Chavez and all he represents. He has used the money from oil exports to the United States to finance terrorist operations in Colombia. He has used some of that money to buy weapons from Russia and to insult the U.S. government by subsidizing fuel in poor areas of this country. We continue to provide him with the means to attack us.

On the other hand, we continue to depend on governments that without declaring their enmity toward us support terrorists who would do us harm.  We continue to enrich Saudi Arabia even knowing that hostile elements have come out of that part of the world.  How it is possible that we continue giving them money that is then used to attack us?  It is evident that the politics that continues with regard to crude oil are not leading us in the right direction.  Not only are we continuing to depend on those governments that want to do us harm, but we give them the means to organize the destruction of our system.  The attacks on the western world are subsidized with our money

Obama, as we know, has not been able to close the prison in Guantánamo.  The idea has not disappeared completely, and when confronted with the reality of an indispensable prison that cannot exist on the continental U.S., the Obama government has stopped badmouthing George W. Bush as far as the need to maintain that prison.

At this time there is no solution in sight to the terrorism of Islamic extremists.  The terrorists have allies in the governments of that region.  They also understand that their existence is connected with our dependence of the crude oil under the sand of their deserts.  They know that as long as that oil is needed there will not be shortage of funds for their destructive mission.

Combustible Diplomático

Cuando Jimmy Carter declaró una crisis nacional por motivo de la escasez de combustible nosotros pensamos que este país finalmente decidiría dejar de depender del petróleo extranjero. El petróleo crudo se ha vuelto oro para los países productores donde nosotros no tenemos muchos amigos. Durante la era de Carter el Sha de Irán, que había sido un títere de EEUU, se olvidó de quien lo puso allí y nos dio la espalda. Cuando su pueblo se rebeló él no pudo encontrar muchos amigos y los ayatolás empezaron su régimen de terror. El petróleo los ha hecho inmensamente ricos y les ha permitido exportar su visión violenta del mundo.

En nuestros días, nosotros todavía tenemos a Irán como enemigo, pero un viejo aliado, Venezuela, está ahora en las manos glotonas y sucias de un dictador que pretende ser el heredero de Simón Bolívar. El Libertador despreciaría a Chávez y cuanto él  representa. El ha usado el dinero de divisas de petróleo para financiar operaciones de terroristas en Colombia. Ha usado parte de ese dinero para comprar armas rusas y para insultar al gobierno de EE.UU. proveyendo gasolina a bajo precio en los barrios pobres de este país. Seguimos facilitándole los medios para atacarnos.

Por otro lado, seguimos dependiendo de gobiernos que sin declararse claramente como enemigos apoyan el terrorismo. Seguimos enriqueciendo a la Arabia Saudita aún sabiendo que elementos hostiles han salido de esa parte del mundo. ¿Cómo es posible que sigamos dándoles dinero que luego usan para atacarnos? Es evidente que la política que se sigue con respecto al petróleo crudo no nos lleva por buen camino. No solamente continuamos dependiendo de esos gobiernos que nos quieren mal, sino que les damos los medios para que organicen la destrucción de nuestro sistema. Con ese mismo dinero se subvencionan los ataques al mundo occidental.

Ya vemos como Obama no ha podido cerrar la prisión de Guantánamo. La idea no ha desaparecido completamente, y al verse confrontado con la realidad de una prisión indispensable que no puede existir en el suelo de Estados Unidos, el gobierno de Obama ha dejado de hablar mal de George W. Bush en cuanto a la necesidad de mantener la prisión allí.

En este momento no se vislumbra una solución al terrorismo nacido de elementos musulmanes. Los terroristas tienen aliados en los gobiernos de esa región. Ellos también entienden que su existencia está ligada a nuestra dependencia del crudo bajo la arena de sus desiertos. Ellos saben que mientras tengamos necesidad de ese petróleo no habrá escasez de fondos para su misión destructiva.
